'Field of Dreams' at Chelsea Arts Club, London

27 May – 15 June 2025

Curated by Katya's art advisor and friend Amie Conway, Katya's Space was proud to present Field of Dreams, an exhibition at Chelsea Arts Club, London, celebrating the life and work of Katya Kan. Featuring a vibrant selection of her works on paper, including unseen paintings from the Untitled (Metaverse) series, the show explored themes of identity, heritage, and imagination through Katya’s unique visual language.

‘My artistic aim is to overcome my marginality through creating a utopian vision, which reconnects me to my childhood. My art explores my status as a half-Asian artist, who doesn't fit in any cultural hegemony and who has no sense of 'home' in post-colonialist, feminist and psychoanalytical terms. A specimen of globalisation, I was born in Kazakhstan, my father North Korean and my mother Russian. Having caught a glimpse of the USSR, I have a conflicting perception of cultural systems. Unable to assimilate into any culture, I am a banished outsider with no origins.' Katya Kan, 2020

“Walking into Field of Dreams feels like stepping into a mind at play — visually exuberant, emotionally complex, and utterly alive.” Visitor book quote, 2025

"Kan’s paintings and drawings are more than just images; they’re stories in motion. Each canvas is a page from a diary written in the language of dreams, where the boundaries between past and present, memory and imagination, blur and bend. Her visual language is unmistakable: bold, playful, and deeply personal. There’s a sense of longing here, too—a desire to capture every fleeting moment before it slips away." Visitor book quote, 2025

Katya’s work was also featured in L’espace Entre Deux, a group exhibition curated by NG Art Creative Residency in the heart of Provence. Set in a 12th-century church, the exhibition created a moving dialogue between Katya’s deeply personal imagery and the quiet beauty of the surrounding landscape.

“In Provence, Katya’s work takes on a ghostly resonance… her legacy continues to sing, howl, and whisper.” Visitor book quote, 2025
